2006 marks the fiftyeighth time the Academy Award will be presented for Outstanding Costume Design.The FIDM Museum and Galleries are proud to present our 14th annual edition of The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition.The costumes in the Museum and Galleries represent the creativity and skill of the costume designer in creating the mood and aura of the period in which each film is set. Whether they are elegant embroideries and ruffles or gritty denims and fleece, costumes must fit the style and tone of the movie, requiring equal amounts of research, skill, and talent.The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising salutes these multifaceted designers and their counterparts, and praises the meticulous research, the painstaking care in detail and design, and the enormous contribution that costume design makes to the film industry.
