The worlds greatest film directors seek her because of her exceptional gifts as a designer and storyteller. As a superb costume designer she is an invaluable collaborator when visual narrative is the imperative, and usually complements a design team of stellar cinematographers and production designers.Born in Turin, in northern Italy, Milena Canonero studied art, design history and costume design in Genoa before moving to England. She soon began working in small theatre and film productions. As a stylist designing commercials in London, she had the opportunity to meet many film directors, including Hugh Hudson.While visiting the set of 2001, Milena Canonero met Stanley Kubrick. After assisting Kubrick in various positions including researching and dubbing films, the Director offered Canonero her first job as a costume designer. His trust was justified when she created the witty, shattering, futuristic clothes for A Clockwork Orange 1971.
