His reputation as one of the most important photographers of the last 25 years was established with the publication of his seminal book, Tulsa, in 1971. Comprised of photographs Larry took of himself and his outlaw friends between 1962 and 1971, Tulsa became a worldwide cult classic upon its release. Since then, Clark has published four books and held over fifty one person exhibitions at major galleries. His work is represented in the permanent collections of, among others, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim and the L.A. Museum of Contemporary Art.Clarks art inspired a generation of photographers and filmmakers. Martin Scorcese and Gus Van Sant have acknowledged Clarks inspiration for Taxi Driver and Drugstore Cowboy.
